gerryoamta

Our Company believes that safety shouldn’t be learned by accident. Safety is the responsibility of everyone. The success of our safety program is based on team effort and the establishment of solid safety principles.

Gerry Orr follows all of our safety policies and procedures and exceeds our expectations for the amount of effort and consideration he puts forth every day. I am honored to help present this award for AMTA Driver of the Month to Gerry Orr, as he is a very qualified employee who does his best to keep our roads safe.

Gerry is one of our top LCV highway drivers who has been, and continues to be, a pleasure to work with. He has been an incredible asset to Duckering’s for 23 years and counting. In those 23 years he has never been injured on the job nor had a preventable accident.  His loyalty and dedication to the Company is evident on a daily basis. He is always thinking about what is best for the Company and is always trying to find ways to benefit us, whether it is financially through fuel mileage or suggesting ideas that could increase efficiency.

In person, Gerry is very approachable and always carries a positive attitude. He is a friendly person who would be willing to help out any one if asked. On the road, Gerry sets an image for Duckering’s. That image is of professionalism, courtesy, and respect for his vehicle as well as all others on the road. He keeps his truck spotless and shows the utmost care for all of our equipment. Any task we put him too, he excels at.

Gerry is a key driver for Duckering’s Transport, and it is an asset to our Company. His superior driving skills are tested daily; as he makes his LCV runs through the cities of Edmonton, Red Deer, and Calgary. The AMTA has recognized Gerry’s skilled driving habits by awarding him with the 2 Million Mile Award. This award is presented to superior drivers who have driven a total of 2 Million Miles, and are recognized by the AMTA. On our Company issued observation reports, Gerry has maintained consistency and has never had a violation. He has exceeded our standards for a driver, and we are appreciative of his history of excellent work and dedication he portrays while on the job.

The staff of Duckering's Transport enjoyed beautiful weather and good times at the first ever company wide family campout from July 17 - July 19. Held at Pine Lake in the Leisure Campground, approximately 85 were on hand on Saturday to to fish, frolic and feast in temperatures near 30 degrees, while a fewer number arrived on Friday and camped for the entire weekend. Faces were put to familiar voices as all three branches spent the weekend getting to know the team members that they don't get to physically see on a day-to-day basis.
The fishing derby in the morning got underway with cash bets and trash talk. Those left on the beach were asked to have the coffee hot for the 'pros' who would be back in less than fifteen minutes. Unfortunately the heat coupled with a lake full of skiers and tubers put the fish into hiding, and the fishermen all returned empty-handed. Not completely dejected however as the stories of the big ones that got away were passed around for the rest of the day. We received generous donations from The Fishing Hole and Campers
Village for our derby which we gave out through a draw at the end of the day. The draw winners were Lee Wheatley, Karen Boraski, and Amanda Wheatley. Calgary driver, Dan Melesko, donated two fishing rods for youth fishermen which were won by Brayden Egan and Isaiah Raju.DSCN0116

The afternoon saw little wind and lots of heat drive people out on the water to tube and wakeboard, while others enjoyed the beach. The Leisure Campground facility provides lots of watersports to enjoy and plenty of beach to
tan. For those who were a little less drawn to the crowded waterfront, there were horse-shoe pits and bocce ball games all afternoon.
After supper, organized team games included the 4-way tug-of-war, 5-legged racing, and team sack races. The competitions were fierce as 10 teams of 4 fought to be the champion in each event.

The champion teams were:
4-way Tug-of-War: Terry Buchholz, Laura Buccholz, Merle Sebry, Dwayne Campbell

5-legged Race: Dano Melesko, Carter Littlefair, Dwight Perigo, Dan Duckering

Team Sack Race: Amanda Wheatley, Kaela Duckering, Cherise Boraski, Desiree Duckering
